Once again Mustang MiTT has changed their part of the world for better. We have conducted a food drop, which fed 200 families. It was distributed amongst eight neighborhoods through their local leaders. Doing this not only helped with the local national's morale but strengthened relations and increased security between the US and the local Iraqis. The Iraqi Army and Iraqi Police provided security for the entire event, while the mayor of Bi'aj was overseeing the distribution. We delivered 1000 kilograms of flour, 500 kilograms of rice, 200 kilograms of sugar, and 100 kilograms of tea. This was also a big success for the city of Bi'aj as a whole. Once again proving that they are supportive of the IA and IP presence, and can successfully work together with them as a team. You can see that the country of Iraq is continuing to grow and develop; due to the organization and planning it took on all levels to accomplish this.

Today we changed the lives of over a thousand individuals. For a relatively small sum of $2300 we were able to purchase the pharmaceuticals that underscored this CME (Civilian Medical Exercise). We saw and treated 510 children, which exhausted our pediatric medicinal supply. There were six U.S. Army medical professionals, three male and three female. We also had 3 Iraqi Army medical professionals present as well as one doctor from Bi'aj. One thing we didn't have this time around were blankets. Those would have been good to hand out at an event like ours. We are planning on seeing more of the female population next time we run a CME. A total of 254 females were treated, and just slightly a few more males, at 260. The entire security force was comprised of Iraqi Army and Police. They secured several blocks around Al Ashary School, where the exercise took place. They ran the entrance and exit points, ensuring the right amount of people were let into the school at any given time. The only real problem we ran into, was an over abundance of jubilant local children who, all to happy to see us, happened to be in the way as we left in our vehicles. Overall this was a great way to show U.S. support to the local community, as well as getting Iraqis involved, making this a very successful and appreciated joint exercise.

Download the Iron Strong Daily from 15Oct08. Page 2 showcases the Bi'aj bash.

Bi'aj Bash is the nickname of the operation that culminated six months of work for the 2/11/3 MiTT. Multiple coalition and Iraqi units participated in this coordinated effort to clear and secure the city of Bi'aj. For twelve hours, these units went door to door, ensuring every building was searched and every citizen was registered.

I designed this site over a month ago to increase awareness for the MiTT that I am currently supporting. They are engaged in many activities to support the local community. By putting this site up I hope to shine light on one of the many good situations currently going on in Iraq. Right now the MiTT is helping the local populace by improving their health and education systems. The citizens of Bi'aj are greatly benefiting from their efforts.
